The way I see it,
things should last.
My Great Great Grandfather Henry Davis Holt was born on his father’s ranch in 1864. Henry and his two older brothers, George and Frank, began running their own cattle and horses on the ranch and wanted a way to keep them separate from their fathers. They came up with a brand that was uniquely theirs: a 3H combined to represent the three Holt brothers. Years later George and Frank quit the cattle business to pursue other interests. Grandpa continued to use the 3H brand for the rest of his life. This brand has been handed down father to son through the generations. My father, my brother and I still use it to brand our cattle, still representing three Holts, and someday so will my sons and their sons.
One of the things I love about making knives is knowing that something I created will out last me and be here long after I’m gone. This is one of the reasons why I have chosen my family’s 3H brand as my maker’s mark that I etch onto each knife. This brand has lasted for generations, and with care, my knives will too. Built to last, just like great grandpas brand.
